Choirs spread Christmas cheer alongside Amy Grant
Lipscomb University and Academy Choirs perform at Lighting of the Green.
On Nov. 29, 2022, Lipscomb University and Academy Choirs were given the opportunity to perform alongside Amy Grant at the annual Lighting of the Green. The choirs took the stage to perform unique renditions of classic Christmas songs.
Lighting of the Green is an annual event hosted by Amy Grant and features special guests to kick off the holiday season.
This is a special opportunity for Lipscomb University and Academy students. Sharing the stage with Amy Grant, Michael Tait and Selah, the choirs got an experience of a lifetime.
“It was surreal! I thought it was cool to see all of the artists do their thing, and it felt super chill. They all come off as normal people who just happen to be really famous for what they do. It was cool to perform in front of that many people, definitely a challenge projecting vocally in a venue that size,” says junior Lipscomb Gospel Choir member, Luke Bandy.
Choirs performing at Lighting of the Green has been a long standing tradition. Students have been included in the Christmas event hosted by Grant since the first one 18 years ago. This tradition is important for student performers.
“[Lighting of the Green] gives prospective singers and musicians a chance to have some legitimate performance experience. If you can get past the nerves to sing in front of that many people, you can probably handle most audiences,” says Bandy.
This experience gives students an opportunity to use their talents to spread holiday cheer to their community.
“I think that we have stewarded our gifts well so that God is glorified, and I know that I personally have experienced joy because of this group, and for that, I’m grateful. I’m glad we got to perform at Lighting of the Green because it gave us the best opportunity to reach as many people as possible and remind them of the goodness of God and of our savior Jesus,” says Bandy.
